MOXIE Theatre is seeking candidates passionate about the arts, gender equity, and radical inclusion.

 

MOXIE Theatre is a game-changing, equity-driven, launchpad for women+ in the arts. We are a 99-seat theatre dedicated to creating more diverse and honest images of women+ for our culture. Our production history reflects our commitment to seeking and supporting new work, and defying stereotypes associated with “women’s work.” We’re dedicated to producing work written by women+ and to providing career opportunities to women+ in theatre, especially in areas of leadership and technical theatre, with a commitment to 50% BIPOC representation in our staff, production and artistic teams. Education Coordinator

MOXIE is looking for an Education Coordinator to lead the expansion of our educational offerings in partnership with the Executive Artistic Director. The ideal candidate is passionate about using theatre education as a way to foster MOXIE’s mission and values by developing inclusive, equity centered, and trauma-informed programs, reaching under-resourced youth, and empowering underrepresented populations to use their own voices on and off stage. 

Responsibilities include overseeing the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all educational programs presented on site at MOXIE Theatre and at locations serviced by MOXIE Theatre. The Education Coordinator is also in charge of outreach to communities that would benefit from these programs, and collaborating with the development team for grant writing to fund such programs.

Pay range: $19-24/hour – depending on experience
Status: Part-time, non-exempt

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, prepare, and organize curricula for all of MOXIE educational programs (both for youth and adults), ensuring appropriate standards are met.
  • Assure that all aspects of MOXIE’s educational programs are aligned with our mission and values, and keep into account the requirements of program participants.
  • Lead the coordination, promotion, and implementation of educational programs, including all scheduling of on-site and off-site programming.
  • Provide recommendations for and follow program budgets. 
  • Act as Summer Academy Director.
  • Schedule Teaching Artists to teach all educational programs, or teach some -or all- of the programs yourself.
  • Provide supervision of students at all times during the duration of classes and programs where you are teaching, extending to the release of students to guardians, maintaining the highest possible degree of safety. Train all Teaching Artists to do the same. 
  • Facilitate all training of new Teaching Artists and professional development opportunities for existing staff.
  • Supervise Teaching Artists to ensure that curricula are taught according to the requirements of program participants and in consideration of MOXIE’s mission.
  • Provide performance reviews of Teaching Artists, both oral and written of overall job performance. Independently perform teaching observations as appropriate.
  • Recommend to the EAD the hiring and dismissal of all teaching staff.
  • Provide educational staff with annual training to review updates and changes in education programs.
  • Coordinate with EAD, Managing Director (MD) and Development Staff to develop and distribute surveys and evaluations for program review.
  • Assist in the development of reports on programs’ success, including data on participants and information gathered from participant surveys.
  • Assist in the promotion of MOXIE’s programs, Summer Academy and enrichment/community programs through phone calls, email, postal mail, etc.
  • Assist the MD and Development Staff in pursuing grants related to educational programs.
  • Coordinate with schools and community organizations the delivery of all programs. 
  • Promote and coordinate school/student attendance to Student Matinees performances of MOXIE’s mainstage productions.
  • Maintaining positive communication with program participants, their  teachers/parents/guardians.
  • Maintain and update a database of schools, community organizations, and other institutions participating in our programs.
  • Coordinate teaching staff’s schedules and collect and review timesheets before providing them to EAD for review.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • At least five years of experience working in education as a Teaching Artist or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably with coursework in Theatre or related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, healing-centered, inclusive and restorative justice practices is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of California Arts Standards preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent email etiquette.
  • Computer literacy, comfortable with using Google Suite tools. 
  • Fingerprinting for a background check will be required.
  • Job requires occasional evenings and weekend hours, including attendance of special events (i.e. Opening nights, Annual Gala, etc.)

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • At least 3 years experience in development and fundraising, preferably in the Arts & Culture sector.
  • Passionate about Community Centered Fundraising principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent email and phone etiquette.
  • Independent worker, creative thinker, flexible and comfortable with multi-tasking.
  • Good with technology. Comfortable using tools like Google Suite, databases, fundraising platforms, and other commonly used office software.
  • Available evenings and weekends for occasional special events (i.e. Opening nights, Fundraisers, Annual Gala, etc.) 
  • Experience with special event planning a plus.

 

COVID-19 Safety Policy

For the comfort of ALL of our community of theatre lovers and theatre makers, MOXIE is providing different options for attending performances:

First Sunday Masked Matinee: During the FIRST Sunday Matinee performance of each show MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED at all times when indoors. We encourage anyone who is immunocompromised or at high health risk to attend this special performance. See CDPH mask recommendations here.

Masks Encouraged At All Other Performances: For all other performances mask are encouraged but not required. A mask can be provided upon request.
