Synopsis: The legend of the “skinless” may be fact or fiction. In a hauntingly beautiful new play about family secrets and fighting to be heard, award-winning playwright, Johnna Adams, weaves a wicked tale you’ll never forget. Emmi wants to write her dissertation on long forgotten 1950’s science fiction and horror writer, Zinnia Wells. As Emmi and her professor engage in a heated debate about the impact of Emmi’s dissertation, the story of writer Zinnia Wells and her sisters unfolds in this dark and fascinating new play. Living in a secluded house, the Wells sisters keep their mother barely alive and locked in a room upstairs. On the front porch Zinnia reads her stories aloud to her three sisters, one of whom is selectively mute and carrying a secret that will undo Zinnia. Her latest tale is about a tribe of skinless people living in the woods but unlike her other work, Zinnia believes the skinless actually exist. The past and present collide as we see the story of the Wells sisters in the 50’s unfold at the same time as Emmi, living in the present, works to uncover the meaning behind Zinnia’s tale.
